Contouring: Making the Face Look Slimmer

HPIM2990One of the best things about makeup is its ability to make the face look smaller and slimmer. This is a short tutorial on how I usually contour my face and the products I use for it.

What I Use:

  1. Fanny Serrano Two Way Cake in Rajah—you’ll be needing a matte brown shading powder that doesn’t have any shimmers and is at least (3) three shades darker than your natural skintone
  2. Marionnaud N32 Blush Brush—this brush, as I’ve mentioned before, is the most multi-functional brush I have ever used. Its shape allows easy contouring and filling in of the hollows of the cheeks
  3. Regular Eyeshadow Brush—this is for contouring the nose bridge; you will be needing something semi-flat but still fluffy enough to allow blending
  4. Finishing/Highlighting Powder—this is for applying on the center of the nose bridge after contouring

Step-by-step Guide on Contouring:

FACE

  1. Load up your brush with the matte brown powder, and tap off the excess.
  2. Determine the hollows of your cheeks (refer to the video embedded below) *If you have difficulty finding the hollows of your cheeks, you can always suck in your cheeks, and the sunken area is usually where you should start shading.
  3. Start blending the powder in a buffing, outward motion. You can buff the powder in circular motions up to the temples to keep everything blended well.
  4. Follow a “C” pattern from the hollows of your cheeks up to your temples.
  5. Work on the jawline next. Apply the powder right along the jawline and blend downward.

NOSE

  1. Start shading from the tip of the inner brow area down to the sides of the nose (refer to the video embedded at the end of this post)
  2. Make sure that you blend thoroughly, you want to achieve shadows, not harsh lines.
  3. When you reach the tip of your nose, use a parallel motion in shading the area.
